4 students out of 10 of standard 7 (40%),they are not able
to read the story of the English class 2, while 16% of standard 7, unable to
read the story of standard 2 and 23% of class 7, they cannot do arithmetic
addition of class 2.
In addition to measuring academic ability of students
especially of standard 7 in the government schools, the study also measured the
absenteeism of teachers in public schools as well as the ratio of the
acquisition of books based on the number of students.
In the region of Singida, teacher absenteeism rate is 58%
while in Manyara region of Ruvuma and teacher absenteeism is only 17%. The
ratio of students per teacher in the Mara region is 126 students while in the
coastal region is 56 students to one student.
"Figures from our surveys are aimed at providing
opportunities for policy makers to know where to begin and also provide a real
picture of what we harvested from the huge investment we make in the education
sector," said Aidan Eyakuze, CEO of Twaweza.
While the study showing some students of the seventh class,
they cannot read and answer the questions of the second class. The situation is
very worse especially to the third class to the students who were given tests
of the second class.
46% of the students in standard three, unable to read a
story in Swahili from second class, 81% did not read the story of the English
from the second class and 65% did not afford to make mathematics of the second
class.
The report has shown imbalance of professional equipment,
teachers and for the students studying in various regions in the country. With
these settings causing consequences significantly.
Nationally, 65% of students not enrolled in pre-school, yet
84% of them are those who live in rural areas. At one book being used by 26
students in Tabora, Kilimanjaro, Ruvuma and Njombe same book used by three
students.
